Councilmember Tom Bailey schedules update on recall Tuesday

Colorado Springs Councilmember Tom Bailey announced that he will be meeting with the media after Tuesday’s City Council meeting ends to speak about the effort to recall him.

In the announcement released Monday, Bailey said he would give a statement in the City Council chambers after the meeting was over and would then answer questions.

The recall petition was launched last fall by residents Bailey represents in District 2, covering the northern section of Colorado Springs. The city clerk’s office announced Friday that the petition had reached the required number of signatures needed to initiate the recall process.

The main organizers for the petition live in the Pine Creek neighborhood and were primarily concerned with the affordable housing project Bailey approved funding for last spring. Organizers also said that Bailey, who ran unopposed for the council seat in April 2025, was not accountable to the broader interests of voters in the district.

In his statement Friday, Bailey said the residents were “misusing the recall process” to address issues that predated his time in office and attempt to force a new election with lower turnout to get their preferred outcome.

Bailey officially has until the end of day Wednesday to either step down from the City Council or head to a recall election in his district. If Bailey chooses to face a recall election, the vote would take place between April 5 and May 5.
