Colorado Springs will kick off the week with springlike temperatures, low humidity and red flag fire danger, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.

Monday is expected to be sunny, with a high near 71 degrees, the weather agency predicts. The high temperature is nearly 20 degrees warmer than the average for this time of year, but shouldn’t reach the record high of 78 degrees, set in 1989.

Friday’s blast of snow left more fluffy white stuff in a single day than the city saw in the entire month of February, but a high pressure system over the Rockies has caused a return to the warm weather that has marked much of the winter season. With the exception of Wednesday, Colorado Springs residents should expect high temperatures in the high 60s and low 70s throughout the week, the Weather Service said.

Because of wind gusts of up to 35 mph and relative humidity as low as 10%, a red flag fire warning has been issued from noon until 7 p.m. Monday. Residents are advised to “exercise extreme caution” with any outdoor burning or any activity that might cause a spark.

Pueblo, which is expected to reach a high of 78 degrees Monday, is also under a red flag fire warning from noon-7 p.m.
