Colorado Springs Utilities begins infrastructure work on Austin Bluffs after delay
Colorado Springs Utilities was scheduled to start relocating electric infrastructure for a new substation on Monday, according to a news release.
The field construction, which will include lane closures along Austin Bluffs Parkway, begins following a delay from the initial schedule Utilities announced earlier this year.
The Central Bluffs Substation Project will include a series of partial lane closures along Austin Bluffs between Union Boulevard and North Academy Boulevard. The lane closures will allow crews to safely access and move electric lines, officials said.
“After further project coordination, the planned lane closures were postponed to allow for additional preparation and inspection work to be completed,” the release stated. “This delay ensured travel lanes were not closed until absolutely necessary, limiting the impact on the community.”
Drivers using Austin Bluffs once the roadwork begins should expect congestion and slower travel times, especially during peak morning and afternoon hours, Utilities stated in previous releases. Motorists are cautioned to drive carefully while crews work on the roadway.
