Isaiah Johnson’s stellar freshman season earned recognition.

After breaking Colorado’s freshman scoring record, a mark previously held by longtime NBA player Alec Burks, Johnson was named Big 12 Co-Player and Co-Newcomer of the week, sharing both awards with Baylor’s Tounde Yessoufou.

The standout newcomer also was named Big 12 honorable mention, the only member of the Buffaloes to earn full-season all-conference honors.

CU went 1-1 in the final week of the regular season, beating Utah on the road before losing at home to No. 2 Arizona on Saturday night. Johnson averaged 25 points and 4.5 assists per game across the week.

The Los Angeles native leads the Buffs in scoring at 17 points per game, despite coming off the bench for the first half of the season. He’s third in the Big 12 and 15th nationally among qualifying freshmen in scoring.

Johnson scored a season-high 28 points in the loss to Arizona that capped a 17-14 regular season (7-11 in Big 12 play) for the Buffs. CU next heads to the Big 12 tournament in Kansas City, where Tad Boyle’s team is the No. 11 seed set to play No. 14 seed Oklahoma State on Tuesday (7:30 p.m., ESPN+).
