Two brothers were each sentenced to multiple decades in prison Friday for a drive-by shooting that killed a teenager outside the Denver Aquarium in 2024.

Antonio Vasquez and Jason Trujillo were sentenced to 40 and 20 years in prison, respectively, after each pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the Feb. 14, 2024 shooting that killed 19-year-old Dacien Salazar outside Denver’s Downtown Aquarium, according to a news release from the Denver District Attorney’s Office.

Vasquez was the one who fired the shots that killed Salazar while Trujillo drove the car they were in, according to the release.

“Dacien Salazar’s murder was not just a tragedy for his friends and family, it was a crime that shocked countless Denver residents — a shooting in broad daylight in a busy public place,” said Denver District Attorney John Walsh in the release. “Today’s sentences ensure that Antonio Vasquez and Jason Trujillo will pay a heavy price for their cold-blooded actions.”

Chief Deputy District Attorneys Kate Horton and Katie Kirk with the Denver District Attorney’s Office led the prosecution team in the case.
