A Colorado Springs homeowner was treated for smoke inhalation after a fire in their residence was set ablaze by smoking a cigarette in a conjoined garage on Friday, a spokesperson with the Fire Department said.

Firefighters arrived within three minutes of the initial report of a fire around 4 p.m. to rescue a trapped dog inside the home in the 1900 block of Warwick Lane.

The fire and smoke damage to the residence will displace the homeowner, who is the only resident alongside the dog, according to the spokesperson.

The Fire Department will not send an investigative team to examine the cause because the homeowner told them they were smoking in the garage.
