Army offers $15,000 for info about former Fort Carson soldier’s death

Joseph "Joey" Barker and his wife, Amber

The Army’s Criminal Investigation Division is offering $15,000 in exchange for information about the death of former Fort Carson soldier Joseph Barker.

About 20 years ago, Barker was found in a sewage treatment pond on Fort Carson.

He was last seen alive in the barracks on Feb. 8, 2006, according to a statement from investigators. He was found about two weeks later.

“I am still hoping that someone, somewhere, knows something and will find the conscience and courage to come forward,” his wife Amber Stone recently wrote to The Gazette.

While an autopsy was conducted, it’s unknown how Barker died because of the damage from the pond, according to earlier reporting by The Gazette, which recently marked the 20th anniversary of Barker’s death in a feature story.

Anyone with information can contact the Army CID Cold Case Unit at 520-706-8685, email usarmy.belvoir.hqda-usacid.mbx.cold-case-unit@army.mil or submit an anonymous tip online at www.p3tips.com/armycid.

More info about the terms of the reward can be found at cid.army.mil.
