A Sheppard Air Force Base airman was sentenced to life in federal prison on Friday after traveling to Colorado Springs to kidnap and sexually abuse a child in May, according to a news release by the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Texas.

The conviction of 24-year-old Travis Robert Larson, of Denton, Texas, on the charges of enticing a minor and sexually abusing a minor, comes several months after Air Force security found the child a day after being reported missing outside his base dorm in Wichita Falls, Texas.

The victim’s father initially reported their child was missing to Colorado Springs police on May 4 after finding messages between the child and Larson that indicated Larson planned to drive to Colorado and bring the victim back to Texas with him, the release states.

Larson hid the child in the trunk of his vehicle to get them onto the base undetected and sexually abused the victim inside his dorm.

The next day, Air Force security found the child near Larson’s dorm room on Sheppard Air Force Base, according to the release.

The victim later allegedly told law enforcement that Larson was communicating with them for three or four years and traveled to Colorado Springs twice in April to commit sexual abuse.

Investigators searching Larson’s phone found he was aware of the child’s age because their birthdate, name and social media accounts were listed in his notes.

In addition to CSPD, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Air Force Office of Special Investigations and FBI investigated the incident.
