A suspect in a deadly shooting voluntarily turned himself in to Pueblo police on Sunday, according to a news release.

Leandro Medina, 20, was wanted on suspicion of first-degree murder and first-degree assault in connection with a double shooting that killed 20-year-old Evie Gallegos last week.

Just before 3:30 a.m. Feb. 26, officers responded to a shots-fired call in the 2800 block of East 14^th Street, officials said. When they arrived, they found one person dead and another who had been shot “at least once.” That victim was taken to the hospital and treated for “non life-threatening” injuries.

Medina, who reportedly surrendered without incident Sunday, was being held Monday without bond at the Pueblo County jail, according to the Sheriff’s Office website.

Gallegos’ death is the second homicide in Pueblo this year, according to police. On Feb. 7, officers responded to a call about a shooting at the Days Inn hotel, 4201 N. Elizabeth St. When they arrived, they found a male who had died at the scene. Police arrested James McKenney, 63, in connection with the killing.

There had been no homicides in Pueblo at this point in 2025, police said.
