Wrestling and girls swimming and diving have wrapped their seasons as winter prep sports nears its conclusion.

But ice hockey and basketball have a little more road to travel before the end of their respective seasons and had multiple stellar contests in the previous seven days.

Below is a recap of impressive feats from last week in prep sports.

Mia Castro, jr., Evangel Christian Academy, girls basketball – The otherworldly steals numbers continue to pile up for the Eagles’ star.

Castro tied a career high with 16 steals and scored 17 points in a 57-27 victory against Peyton. Her mind-boggling total came after she had 15 swipes against Custer County on Feb. 16.

Earlier this season, Castro passed Heidi Mann’s school record of 510 all-time steals and, per Colorado High School Activities Association’s record book, is third with 550 career steals. She is 81 shy of the state’s all-time girls record of 631 set by Far Northeast’s Tosjanae Bonds, who played from 2016-2020.

Castro is first in Colorado and sixth in the nation at 9.7 steals per night and has at least five in every game this year. In 70 career contests, Castro has at least one steal in all but one game.

Nate Dillavou, sr., Thomas MacLaren, boys basketball – No Miami-Yoder player could shutter the brilliance of Dillavou in their game Feb. 17.

Dillavou finished with a game-high 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds along with four assists in the Highlanders’ 63-27 victory against the Buffaloes.

It followed a game against Monument Academy on Feb. 18, when Dillavou scored 22 points, which gave him his fifth 20-point game of the season.

Capri Simpson, jr., Colorado Springs Christian, girls basketball – In her sixth double-digit scoring game of the season, Simpson also managed a solid shooting performance for the Lions.

In CSCS’ 62-12 victory against Vanguard, Simpson scored 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting and knocked down a 3-pointer for the Lions.

Simpson also had a team-high six steals, a total that set a career high. She has 37 steals for the season.  

Isabella Wilkinson, jr., Mitchell, girls basketball – The Marauders’ third win of the year came on a strong performance from Wilkinson.

She finished with a game-high 15 points and grabbed 16 of Mitchell’s 28 rebounds in the Marauders’ 35-26 win against Alameda.

The guard also had a game-high five steals and added two blocks.

Mia Busby, so., James Irwin, girls basketball – An impressive season continues for the Jaguars and Busby remains an imposing force to opposing teams.

Busby scored 13 points, and had 19 rebounds and nine steals in the Jaguars’ 49-39 win against Rye to give the Jaguars their 12th victory, their highest win total in the MaxPreps era, which dates back to 2006-07 for the Jags.

Through 17 games this season, Busby averages 15.7 rebounds, which is third in Colorado and 58^th in the nation.  

Luke Meyer, so, James Irwin, boys basketball – Meyer found his touch in a 56-48 win against Rye last week.

The Jaguars sophomore dropped 22 on the Thunderbolts and grabbed 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Meyer also hit two of the Jaguars’ three 3-pointers and finished with six made free throws.

Jaden Lopez-Hardy, sr., Fountain Valley, boys basketball – Lopez-Hardy has scored double figures in all 11 games he’s played this season. Against Cripple Creek-Victor, it was his highest scoring total.

The Danes guard had 16-of-31 shooting for a career-high 39 points in a 76-23 win against the Pioneers. Along with three 3-pointers, Lopez-Hardy also grabbed 14 rebounds and had three steals.

Lopez-Hardy has not scored fewer than 10 points and has scored 28 or more in three games this year.

Jeilo Hamenyimana, sr., Harrison, boys basketball – Through Harrison’s first 22 games, Hamenyimana hit 21 3-pointers.

In the final regular-season game of his career, Hamenyimana went off from beyond the arc. Hamenyimana scored a season-high 25 points in the Panthers’ 71-59 win against Coronado and the senior finished at 83 percent beyond the arc on 5-of-6 shooting.

Hamenyimana also finished with five steals and grabbed three rebounds for the Panthers.

Cameron Cunningham, jr., Liberty, boys basketball – Cunningham joined the 1,000-point club with his performance against Fountain-Fort Carson.

The Lancers beat the Trojans 83-44 and Cunningham poured in 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting and 5 of 9 from deep to reach 1,000 points.

Cunningham has reached double figures in seven consecutive games and has shot over 50 percent from the field in six of those matchups.

Lexi D’andrea, jr., Coronado, girls basketball – A shooting slump stifled the Cougars guard for seven games, but she cured her woes against Harrison.

D’andrea scored 20 in the Cougars’ 40-39 victory against Harrison to close the season, finished 6-of-12 shooting and hit three 3-pointers.

Following a stretch of seven games with two or fewer made field goals, D’andrea nailed the most field goals she’s had in nearly a month since she finished with seven made shots against Mesa Ridge on Jan. 22.

Samira Gantt, sr., Liberty, girls basketball – One of Gantt’s best shooting night’s from beyond the arc helped the Lancers secure a 64-48 victory against Fountain-Fort Carson.

Gantt finished the game with 5-of-10 shooting from deep and scored 29 points.

The Liberty senior has four games this season shooting 50 percent or better from beyond the arc and has 54 made 3s this season.

Aneace Forman, so., Thomas MacLaren, girls basketball – Forman had an unconventional double-double and nearly notched a triple-double in the Highlanders’ 65-42 victory against Crowley County.

Against the Chargers, Forman had a game-high 11 rebounds, 10 steals and eight assists to boost the Highlanders to their 15^th consecutive victory.

The game marked Forman’s sixth time this season with 10 or more steals and her eight assists is Forman’s second-highest total this year. Forman had nine in a victory against Woodland Park on Jan. 7.

Karmin Lane, jr., Falcon, boys basketball – While the Falcons shot 35 percent from deep against Mesa Ridge, Lane torched the Grizzlies from beyond the arc.

Lane nailed five of Falcon’s six 3-pointers in its 69-63 victory against Mesa Ridge and the junior finished with a career-high 25 points. The two games prior to his hot shooting night, Lane was 1 of 12 from deep.

His 83 percent night from 3 was his best shooting performance of the year.

James Driggers, sr., Village, boys basketball – Driggers truly saved his best for last. In the Mountaineers’ final home game, Driggers went ballistic against James Irwin.

In their 68-36 win against the Jaguars, Driggers finished with a career-high 39 points on 16-of-31 shooting and he nailed six 3-pointers for the Mountaineers. In 20 games this season, Driggers has 11 or more in each contest and in nine of those he scored 20 or more.

Ice hockey

Colorado Springs D11 4, Crested Butte 3 (OT)

The Bookworms trailed 3-2 late in the third period of their first-round game on Friday, but Quinn Barton tied the contest at 3-3 with 2:57 left to keep the No. 8 seed alive.

With 33 seconds left in overtime, Easton Stichka struck for the Bookworms and celebrated with his team to put CSD11 in the quarterfinals of the 4A playoffs.

Crew Miller and Carson Greene also scored for the Bookworms and Kyden McCarter led the team in assists with two.

Boys basketball

Rampart 61, Pine Creek 56

The Rams couldn’t separate from the Eagles until the third quarter.

Rampart led 26-24 at halftime and, albeit a slim margin, outscored Pine Creek 17-14 in the third quarter to build a 43-38 advantage.

Both teams battled to an 18-18 stalemate in the fourth period, but the Rams held on to earn the victory in their penultimate regular-season contest. The Rams withstood a barrage of 3-pointers from Eagles senior John Kubik, who scored a game-high 20 points on 6 of 10 from beyond the arc.

Theodore Wilson and Wyatt Kirch each had 15 for the Rams and Elias Bishop finished with eight points, nine rebounds and nine assists.

Girls basketball

Mesa Ridge 44, Widefield 41

With Grizzly grad and former WNBA hooper Kylee Shook in the house, Mesa Ridge managed a tough victory over its rival. The Grizzlies outscored the Gladiators 16-12 in the fourth quarter and avenged a 54-48 loss to Widefield on Jan. 28.

The Grizzlies withstood a 24-point night from Gladiators senior Isabella Monk, who shot 13 of 14 from the line. Brielle Frierson paced the Grizzlies with 17 points and knocked down seven of her 12 free throws.

Sa’lon Spence controlled the boards and finished with a game-high 16 rebounds and four blocks for Mesa Ridge.
