LETTERS: A society enslaved to pleasure; plan before shutting plants

A society enslaved to pleasure

Colorado’s race to the diabolical took a grotesque new turn last week with the introduction of Senate Bill SB26-079, decriminalizing prostitution in Colorado. If abortion until the point of birth and euthanizing our old, poor, and weak doesn’t turn your stomach, this ought to.

Colorado, once again, is “leading” the nation with innovative ways to shed any semblance of morality, with its only aim being the first to leverage every societal vice to destroy the family. Paradoxically, these inept legislators confuse freedom with enslavement. In the pursuit of the freedom to gamble online, smoke marijuana, and experiment with psychedelics, they have created a society enslaved to pleasure.

The downward spiral continues apace with SB79, which not only legalizes prostitution but permits the establishment of businesses that offer this service. That’s correct. Businesses will be permitted to advertise and promote the renting of human beings for disordered sexual proclivities. Colorado cities like ours would be banned from preventing all facets of this law.

Whose fault is it? Don’t blame the legislators. Blame us. By our own fault, we the electorate placed and kept these ghouls in the state legislature. We are to blame because we believed it uncouth to talk politics with friends, family, and co-workers. In an effort to remain civil, we are losing our civilization.

Our families and friends continue to be torn apart by addiction to gambling, drugs, and on-demand abortion and euthanasia. Unless we stop this train, prostitution and human trafficking will be stapled to the bottom of the list. What follows? Pederasty and bestiality?

It is up to us, then, to put an end to this long string of legislative atrocities. Vote sponsors and supporters of these bills out of office. Call out, embarrass, and hold responsible those who vote for and support them — they are materially participating in the destruction of the family. If we don’t act, there won’t be any semblance of polite society left.

Plan before shutting down plants

There seems to be an opinion circulating in Colorado Springs (and around the world) that using fossil fuels to generate electricity is somehow extremely dangerous to the environment and to our health. So much so that we need to immediately cease using it as a method of providing power to our homes and businesses.

While it is common knowledge that burning fossil fuels does produce emissions, the fairly new increased demand for electricity makes closing any and all fossil fuel powered generating stations shear lunacy. That is, until we can figure out how to economically, effectively and reliably produce so-called “clean energy” we are stuck with the long-employed methods that have provided us with moderately inexpensive power for centuries.

Taking issue with a specific power plant is easy but what about the hundreds of thousands of automobiles that take to the streets each and every day. I am of an opinion that we need to come up with a good plan (nuclear?) to produce electricity long before we shut down what we already have.

A one-of-a-kind leader

I once had a memorable encounter with Doug Moe while waiting for a hotel shuttle to Indianapolis airport. Doug
invited me to share his limo, and, by coincidence, we ended up as seatmates on a delayed flight to Denver. Instead of
discussing his NBA career, Doug talked about Denver, family, baseball in Arizona, and Big Jane.

Doug Moe truly embodied the qualities of a genuine and down-to-earth man. Yes, Moe could tell many stories but the Doug Moe I met for one morning was the story I will remember the rest
of my life.

Punishing blue states

The Gazette’s headline on Feb. 11 read: “Trump plans to withhold funds- Administration to keep grant money from Colorado, 3 other states.” The article stated that these cuts are in addition to previous cuts to Colorado for childcare subsidies, SNAP (food assistance) and other social services.

Once upon a time a president was president for all Americans. An idea held to varying degrees by all presidents until now. For example, the Democratic lead Infrastructure Bill had a hefty majority of the allocations going to red states. When the Democratic president was asked why he didn’t play politics with these funds, his response was: Because I was elected to be president for all Americans, so I chose to spend taxpayer dollars where they would have the greatest impact helping Americans – no matter the color of their state.

So, is it OK for the current president to play politics and punish blue sates by withholding taxpayer dollars? Not when a majority (55.4%) in El Paso County voted for Trump and yet our president is removing funds from all El Paso County residence including the majority who voted for Trump. And for the state, the combined voters for Trump plus those who didn’t vote at all is larger than the total votes for Harris; therefore, it is beyond petty and just plain wrong to remove dollars for infrastructure improvements, for grants for better healthcare and subsidies, for affordable childcare, Etc. for all Coloradans just to punish the 1,728,159 voters that kept Colorado blue. This majority (Trump voters plus non-voters) use Colorado roads, bridges, SNAP, childcare and healthcare subsidies and other social services too, so don’t punish them just because Colorado voted blue in 2024.

Once upon a time a president was president for all Americans. And I really miss those days.
