Driver in ‘critical condition’ after car plunges into Prospect Lake in Colorado Springs
One person is in critical condition after being rescued from a car that plunged into Prospect Lake Thursday night, according to the Colorado Springs Fire Department.
At 5:03 p.m., the fire department and the Colorado Springs Police Department received reports of someone driving into the lake at Memorial Park, according to CSFD’s public information officer, Ashley Franco.
The car was westbound on Airport Road when it crossed South Union Boulevard, entered the park and drove into the lake, where it became fully submerged, according to Sgt. Ronnie Taylor.

Crews arrived at the lake at 5:08 p.m., breaking the window of the vehicle to rescue the single occupant in below-freezing water in under two minutes, Franco said. The victim was provided critical care, then transported to a local hospital.
According to officials, two police officers and two firefighters were transported to a local hospital to treat cuts and hypothermia.
Officials said 29 fire department members responded to the scene, as well as the dive team to ensure no one else was in the vehicle.
The crash is under investigation.
