Fort Carson opens new, modernized fire station next to Gate 6

Fort Carson’s firefighters opened the doors to a brand-new fire station on Wednesday morning.

Fire Station 34, located right next to Gate 6, will house two trucks and a four-person firefighting company. The opening comes after nearly a decade of interest in replacing the previous Fire Station 34 with a larger facility.

“It’s building for the future because with this building, we actually have the footing and everything for expansion, for another company to come in,” Fort Carson Fire Department Chief Robert Fisher said.

Lt. Col. Daniel Gonzalez, Fort Carson’s Director of Emergency Services, said the new station was a major step in modernization. The original Fire Station 34 near the Turkey Creek Recreational Center was built in 1912 and was partially based in a 1,200-square-foot trailer.

“It didn’t really afford a lot of space for them to operate and live. This movement to an 8,000 square-foot facility allows them to have better living conditions, enhances their training space so they can maintain their readiness,” Gonzalez said.

A key piece of the station’s plans is wildland firefighter training. The wildfire training that Fort Carson is preparing to add would be partially based in the open space directly east of the new station. Gonzalez said the new training program would help ensure that all fire departments in the region had the same training and preparation.

The location directly next to one of the base’s gates will make responding to off-base calls even faster. Gonzalez said that the old Station 34 location responded to 147 mutual aid calls for service since the beginning of January 2025.

The new station has been under construction since 2022.
