Tracking Coloradans in the Winter Olympics

– Jake Canter, 22, of Silverthorne completed an improbable medical comeback to claim the bronze medal in the men’s snowboard slopestyle.

A training accident on a trampoline in 2016 left Canter with a fractured skull and brain bleed. The next year the injury led to a spinal fluid leak that led to bacterial meningitis and a medically induced coma for six days.

The then-13-year-old Coloradan was told he would never snowboard again.

Now Canter owns an Olympic medal after his all-or-nothing final run of 79.36 vaulted him from 11^th place to third.

Oliver Martin, the 17-year-old from Wolcott, placed ninth, earning his second top-10 finish in the Games.

– Mikaela Shiffrin (Edwards) returned to form, capturing gold in the alpine skiing women’s slalom. Her first run of 47.13 seconds staked her to a lead, and she then posted the second-best Run 2 time of 51.97 seconds and took the gold by 1.5 seconds over Switzerland’s Camille Rast.

– The women’s figure skating competition concludes with the free skate Thursday. Alyssa Liu, who formerly trained in Colorado Springs, sits in third place after the short program.

Amber Glenn, who trains in Colorado Springs, is 13th.

– Cameron Smith, who attended Western Colorado, will compete in the ski mountaineering men’s sprint Thursday, with heats beginning at 2:30 a.m. The finals are scheduled for 6:15 a.m.

– Alex Ferreira (Aspen) and Birk Irving (Winter Park) will be in action Thursday in the men’s freeski halfpipe.
