The Halal Guys in northern Colorado Springs has temporarily closed, the New York-based, global fast-casual restaurant chain said.

The restaurant serving American halal street food at 1840 Democracy Point in the Victory Ridge development is temporarily closed because of an “unexpected maintenance matter,” Chief Operating Officer Margaret Carrera said in an emailed statement last week.

“Our team is actively working to resolve the matter and will share updates with the community on our reopening timeline in the coming days. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our guests and look forward to welcoming the community back as soon as possible,” she said in a Thursday statement.

It was still unclear on Tuesday when the restaurant first closed or what the company’s timeline is for reopening. The Halal Guys did not immediately respond to The Gazette’s requests for more information.

A sign taped to the inside of the restaurant’s front doors alerts customers about the closure and encourages them to visit the brand’s two other Colorado locations in Denver and Aurora.

The sign indicates the closure is permanent, however, contradicting the company’s declaration that it is temporary.

Phone calls to the Colorado Springs location went unanswered Tuesday afternoon, but the line remained connected. An automated voice message provided the restaurant’s address and regular operating hours, with no hint of its closure.

The restaurant chain, which opened its first Springs location in February 2025, is said to be the largest American halal street food concept in the world. From the Arabic word that means “permissible” or “lawful,” halal food is prepared according to Islamic dietary laws.

Founded by three Egyptian entrepreneurs, the chain got its start in 1990 as a hot dog cart in New York City. The Halal Guys operates more than 100 locations in the U.S. and abroad, according to its website.

The restaurant offers dishes including gyros, falafel, sandwiches and more.
