18-year-old arrested in shooting death of La Junta teen: Colorado Bureau of Investigation

La Junta police arrested a suspect in the weekend shooting death of a 17-year-old, according to a Monday news release from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Anthony Barron Sandoval Jr., 18, faces a felony charge of second-degree murder and is being held on a $500,000 bond, officials said.

At about 1:50 a.m. Saturday, La Junta police responded to calls about a male who had been shot at a home in the 1400 block of Belleview Avenue. Arriving officers found the victim dead at the scene, according to the release.

La Junta investigators, with assistance from CBI agents, interviewed multiple witnesses at the scene before taking Sandoval into custody, officials said. The Otero County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity after officially determining the cause and manner of death.

Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact the La Junta Police Department’s non-emergency line at 719-384-2525.
