El Paso County-based entertainment company VENU continues expanding

A little more than a year after going public and nearly two years since opening its first luxury amphitheater in its hometown of Colorado Springs, hospitality and entertainment company VENU continues making ground in Chairman and Chief Executive Officer JW Roth’s vision, announced in the summer of 2024, to open 10 luxury amphitheaters by 2030.

Since debuting the award-winning, 8,000-seat open air Ford Amphitheater on the Springs’ north side two summers ago, VENU has begun construction on or announced plans to bring its luxury music and entertainment venues to other U.S. cities in Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado.

While some plans have fallen through, such as previously proposed amphitheaters in Oklahoma City and in Yukon, Okla., Roth is confident in his company’s growth.

VENU is working with more than 40 municipalities across the U.S. and has three amphitheaters under construction. Plans have been announced for another amphitheater proposed in the Houston market, and for an indoor music hall in Centennial, south of Denver.

“These are really next-generation venues,” Roth said by phone last week. “We have over 40 municipalities that we’re working with that are somewhere in the negotiation process throughout the U.S., and we’re excited about that.”

Here are some updates on various spaces the company is developing:

In early November, VENU debuted its largest entertainment and hospitality complex to date.

The $44.5 million, 58,700-square-foot Sunset Hospitality Collection located along the edge of the Ford Amphitheater in Colorado Springs’ Polaris Pointe mixed use development “blends refined dining and hospitality with the energy of live music while operating year-round as a standalone destination, independent of the concert calendar,” a company news release said.

The collection features nine private luxury event spaces that can accommodate 12 to 220 guests, two Owner’s Clubs, and is anchored by Roth’s Sea & Steak featuring Brohan’s — VENU’s latest fine-dining restaurant and cocktail lounge. The restaurant opened Nov. 8.

Developed as an investment opportunity with the collection, the restaurant’s membership-only Owner’s Clubs offer members premium mountain views, food and beverage service, and exclusive concerts at Ford Amphitheater, which was recognized this month by Billboard as the Top West Coast Amphitheater in its 2026 Top Music Venues List.

“We set out to build something that would change the culinary landscape here in Colorado, and I believe we have done just that,” Roth said in part in a Nov. 10 news release announcing the collection’s debut.

Though open for a short time, Roth’s Sea & Steak is also earning accolades. This month, the restaurant garnered a silver star in the “Best Newcomer List” category of the Star Wine List of the Year 2026 International Open – The Americas. The international competition highlights top wine destinations and curated wine lists.

Roth’s Sea & Steak also earned a bronze star in the “Best Medium-Sized List” – The Americas category.

The Hall at Bourbon Brothers and Bourbon Brothers Smokehouse & Tavern – Centennial:

On Feb. 4, VENU completed its $13 million acquisition of property in Centennial, the planned site of its state-of-the-art indoor music hall, rental spaces and restaurant.

Located in the 50,000-square-foot former Celebrity Lanes bowling alley at 15755 E. Arapahoe Road, the Hall at Bourbon Brothers and Bourbon Brothers Smokehouse & Tavern will be the first of the company’s indoor venues to feature its Luxe FireSuites, which have been adapted for an indoor setting.

VENU’s FireSuites can accommodate four to 10 guests, with extra-wide seating centered around a gas firepit. The suites also offer ownership opportunities at select locations.

Fifty firepits are planned for the Centennial venue, and they’ve “sold like hotcakes,” Roth said last week — on track to sell out within the next 75 days.

VENU will complete the entitlement process over the next approximately six months, a news release said, with plans to begin construction as soon as permits are issued.

VENU also operates Bourbon Brothers Smokehouse & Tavern locations in Colorado Springs and in Gainesville, Ga. It operates The Hall at Bourbon Brothers in Gainesville and the Phil Long Music Hall at Bourbon Brothers in Colorado Springs.

Construction continues on the 12,500-seat, multi-seasonal open-air Sunset Amphitheater in the Tulsa suburb of Broken Arrow.

The estimated $100 million project includes 202 firepit suites and will be equipped with heating, a canopied roof and the Aikman Club, a membership-only club that features an exclusive suite, premium food and beverages in a luxe ambiance.

It’s expected to open in late 2026 and construction is on schedule, Roth said last week.

VENU is actively booking programming and expects to announce shows at the amphitheater in the coming months, he added.

For now, Sunset at Broken Arrow is the company’s sole Oklahoma location, after Oklahoma City and the city of Yukon, an Oklahoma City suburb, rejected VENU’s proposed amphitheaters in those locations.

Oklahoma City news stations KFOR News 4 and News9 reported in mid-July that Yukon rejected VENU’s proposal to develop a 12,500-capacity open-air amphitheater there.

City leaders cited a feasibility study that determined Yukon would forfeit $92 million in potential sales tax revenues over 30 years.

They also pointed to residents’ concerns about the venue’s proximity to residential neighborhoods and the increased noise and traffic it could generate. Yukon’s worries mirrored those shared by Colorado Springs residents about increased noise and traffic generated by Ford Amphitheater. Since it opened in August 2024, VENU has implemented additional sound mitigation measures at its Colorado Springs amphitheater.

Previously, Oklahoma City denied VENU’s zoning request to build an amphitheater there.

Roth still plans, eventually, to build an OKC-area amphitheater, but there are currently no significant negotiations on the table, he said.

The 20,000-seat open-air Sunset Amphitheater in McKinney, the largest amphitheater in VENU’s collection, is on pace to open in early 2027.

Construction began over the summer on the estimated $300 million project, located about 32 miles north of Dallas. It will host year-round events.

Sunset at McKinney will include innovative heating technology and a canopied roof to protect from weather, as well as an Aikman Club and 295 firepit suites.

VENU broke ground in November on the estimated $100 million, multi-season 12,500-seat outdoor amphitheater located 10 miles northeast of El Paso.

As part of El Paso’s larger Cohen Entertainment District, Sunset at El Paso is expected to serve as an anchor attraction, VENU said in a Nov. 20 news release.

The amphitheater will include 228 luxury firepit suites and the Aikman Club. Located on 20 acres, VENU is building wind walls and adding heating so the amphitheater can offer year-round events. Its canopied roof will also protect from weather.

“That is going to be an incredible venue,” Roth said, noting it will be the first that VENU is marketing internationally because of its proximity to Mexico.

Original plans to break ground on the El Paso project in August 2024 and again in the spring of 2025 were pushed back because of unforeseen complications in completing necessary title work for a land transfer.

There’s no current targeted opening date for Sunset at El Paso, but Roth said it will follow the McKinney amphitheater’s opening next year.

Sunset Amphitheater – Webster, Texas:

VENU announced in December it signed a letter of intent with the city of Webster, about a 30-minute drive southeast of Houston, to develop a 12,500-seat multi-seasonal open-air amphitheater there.

It will be called Sunset Amphitheater Houston at Webster, located in the city’s Flyaway Entertainment and Tourism destination development, a news release said.

This venue will also include a canopy roof and wind walls, 217 firepit suites and the Aikman Club.

The project is valued at $150 million, CultureMap reported in January, a lifestyle news source serving Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio in Texas.

Sunset Amphitheater Houston at Webster is expected to open after the El Paso location, though no specific date has been targeted, Roth said.
