Pueblo police have made an arrest in the city’s first homicide of 2026, according to a Monday news release.

James McKenney, 63, faces a charge of first-degree murder, officials said.

Just after 6:30 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a call about a shooting at the Days Inn hotel, located at 4201 N. Elizabeth St. When they arrived, they found a male who had died at the scene, police said. Witnesses told police that McKenney and the victim had been arguing prior to the shooting.

The victim’s identity was being withheld pending notification of family.
