El Paso County authorities have identified a woman involved in the first Colorado Springs police shooting of 2026.

The Colorado Springs Police Department said the shooting happened after it says a woman hopped in the front seat of a patrol car late Saturday night. The department said the woman, identified as a 30-year-old whose last known residence was in Lincoln County east of Colorado Springs, reached for a duty shotgun inside the cruiser. An officer shot her “at least” once after the attempt gun grab.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting. The woman remains hospitalized but is expected to survive. Law enforcement has yet to say if the woman faces criminal charges.

The incident started after police responded to a call about a man chasing a woman in the 1200 block of Delaware Drive on the city’s east side, near Uintah Street and North Academy Boulevard. The call told dispatch that one of the parties was carrying a rifle, The Gazette previously reported.

Officers spotted Pasillas carrying a knife. Police said she began running when she saw the officers. During a foot pursuit, Pasillas allegedly threw the knife away then got into the front seat of a patrol car.

Ignoring officers’ commands to exit the vehicle, she allegedly reached for the shotgun then was shot.

The Sheriff’s Office declined to comment on the man’s involvement or give more information on the woman being chased.

“Nothing else can be released right now,” said spokeswoman Cassandra Sebastian.

Two shootings involving Colorado Springs police in 2026, with the second happening Monday when an officer and another person were hospitalized after shots were fired just east of downtown. The officer is expected to make a recovery, but the man is in critical condition.

According to the Police Department, the man ran from officers, pulled out a gun and shot an officer. It was not specified how many rounds were fired by the man, who has yet to be identified. Two officers returned fire, striking the man an unspecified amount of times.

Per Colorado law, the Sheriff’s Office is investigating both incidents, a Police Department spokesperson confirmed.

Body-worn camera footage will be released for both shootings within 21 days of each incident taking place.

Last year, there were nine CSPD shootings, according to previous Gazette reporting.
