Snow sculptures in Breck, beer festival in Golden and ballet in Denver among the reasons to explore Colorado this weekend
INTERNATIONAL SNOW SCULPTURE CHAMPIONSHIPS: The intricate carving is complete, and now is the best time to view the stunning art. Through Tuesday, visit Riverwalk Center at Breckenridge (150 W. Adams Ave.) to see how the 12-foot, 25-ton blocks of snow have been transformed. Viewing is free, and visitors can make a day of it with a hot drink, a sweet treat or dinner at several nearby spots. Craving Italian? Try Radicato from chef Matt Vawter.
ULLRGRASS: Bluegrass and beer take center stage at this 12th annual festival in Golden. Guests will enjoy a variety of music — bluegrass, newgrass, funk and jamband — Friday through Sunday at Parfet Park (719 10th St.). Don’t worry: the evening shows will be played under heated big top tents. The beer festival runs noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, with craft brews and ciders from 30-plus breweries around the state. Sunday is designated as family day.
OLD MAN WINTER BIKE RALLY & RUN: This endurance festival features mixed-terrain courses for riders and runners of all skill levels, testing participants through scenic winter landscapes. The 75-mile bike course includes snowy singletrack and trails through canyons. Or test your legs with a half marathon. Afterward, warm up near a bonfire and enjoy a hot meal, cold beer and s’mores while listening to live music. Lyons, oldmanwinterrally.com.
