Two people are dead after a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning that shut down the intersection of North Carefree Circle and Marksheffel Road for several hours.

The two occupants were identified as a 42-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, Colorado State Patrol said. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene after they were trapped inside the truck, a Ford F-150, which became engulfed in flames following the collision.

There were no reports of injuries among those in the other vehicle, a Kia Telluride.

State Patrol additionally noted that the initial investigation “suggests that the Ford F-150 may have run a red light,” according to witness statements.

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s communication page on X announced the road closure at 8 a.m., warning motorists to expect delays and seek alternate routes.

The road reopened shortly before 2:30 p.m., according to the department’s communication page.

One of the vehicles hit a light pole at an intersection and caught fire, KOAA reported. Traffic signals are currently inoperable at the intersection, Colorado State Patrol said.
