Two people in an SUV were hospitalized after a person fired shots at their vehicle before it crashed into the Bessemer Ditch irrigation canal, according to a news release by the Pueblo Police Department.

The department’s ShotSpotter system initially recorded gunshots from the pursuing vehicle at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Veta Avenue and the 600 block of Jackson Street, striking the vehicle and one of its occupants.

The other occupant of the SUV suffered minor injuries during the crash, the release states.

No arrests were announced by police.
