The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has identified a 76-year-old man when he was struck by a vehicle near Monument Valley Park in early January.

On the evening of Jan. 2, Alan Krause was crossing North Cascade Avenue near the intersection of East Espanola Street when a vehicle hit him, according to a Thursday news release from the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Krause was pronounced dead on scene. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with first responders.

At this time, impairment is not suspected, and speed does not appear to be a contributing factor, the Police Department said.

Krause was the first traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year, according to the department. In the past 365 days, there have been 54 traffic fatalities.
