The kids rocked it out at a recent recital performed by 47 students of House of David Music Center in Woodland Park.

Kimberly Founds, who launched the center last year as a nonprofit organization, directed the Showcase Fundraiser for five elementary schools.

“The kids were just so full of pride at being able to give those checks to the administration, whether it was the band leader or the music teacher,” Founds said. “The $100 will go toward the music programs at the elementary schools.”

There were memorable moments during the recitals, including the sounds from Eli Yakel on the drum.

“He cranked it up in the church and had the audience in stitches,” Funds said. “He was so loud and it was so fun.”

In addition to students playing instruments that included lute, ukelele, guitar, harp, drums and violin, Founds provided the bonus.

“We have the sound bowls and it’s just so experiential you feel like you’re going to explode out of ecstasy,” Founds said.

The students are fourth and fifth graders rom Summit, Columbine and Ute Pass elementary schools, Colorado Springs Christian School in Woodland Park and Merit Academy; each school received the $100 donation.

“The $100 will go toward the music programs at the elementary schools,” Founds said.

Founds and five teachers from House of David directed the recital Jan. 10 at Mountain View United Methodist Church in Woodland Park.

Energized by the showcase, the students have formed small “garage bands,” and have recorded their songs on h4n pro recorder for a fundraising album.

“Originally, we planned to use the proceeds for the music program (much -needed instruments), but instead students unanimously voted to raise money for Ukraine refugees,” Founds said.  

The album titled “Understanding Hearts for Ukraine,” will be released in April on a USB drive to be sold for $10 through May 9.
