The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting Wednesday in Walsenburg, the agency announced.

The shooting happened after local authorities were tracking a 43-year-old man, who had an active domestic violence-related arrest warrant and was believed to be armed and dangerous, the Bureau of Investigation said in a Thursday news release.

Officers located the suspect’s vehicle at the TA Express Travel Center in Walsenburg, and the suspect, whose name has not been released, drove off soon after they arrived. During the incident, a Walsenburg Police Department officer fired their gun, according to the release.

A police pursuit east of Walsenburg ensued, with officers following the suspect at “high rate of speed” for several miles. Eventually, the suspect pulled over and was taken into custody off Colorado 10 near mile marker 43.

The suspect had non-life-threatening injuries and was provided medical aid by officers before being transported to a nearby medical facility, the Bureau said in the release. No officers were injured.

Once released from the facility, the suspect – not named by the CBI – will be transported to the Heurfano County Detention Center.
