The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control has preliminarily determined the installation of a water heater “likely caused” a home in rural eastern Pueblo County to explode and kill its two occupants on Jan. 8.

Tammy Brown, 66, and Daniel Conner, 79, were both identified as the victims by the Pueblo County coroner as of Sunday, according to separate posts on social media by the office. Their deaths in the home near 57th Lane and Cherry in Boone were determined to have occurred at 2:40 p.m.

The update on the cause provided by the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office also states propane gas was present at the scene. The investigation is slated to wrap up within the next month.
