Last week in court, the suspect in the October Uber homicide appeared in court for her preliminary hearing, and the woman allegedly behind the 2024 Highland Lakes fire was deemed incompetent for the second time.

More hearings are in store for this week, including a court appearance for Kimberlee Singler and the man accused of shooting another to death outside a Colorado Springs King Soopers gas station.

Here is the rundown.

Tuesday

Vonrobert Kennedy, 23, is set to begin his jury trial Tuesday morning. Kennedy is the suspect in the early morning shooting that left one dead on May 23, 2024, on South Nevada Avenue.

At the time, Colorado Springs police said they responded to the shooting near the southbound off-ramp from Interstate 25. Once officers got to the scene, they found a male, later identified as 45-year-old Darryl Scurry Jr., with at least one gunshot wound. Scurry was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Kennedy was charged while he was being held in the El Paso County jail on unrelated charges.

Wednesday

Kimberlee Singler, 37, makes her second appearance in a 4th Judicial Courtroom since she was extradited from the United Kingdom. Singler faces first-degree murder charges in the death of two of her children in December 2023.

Singler is suspected of murdering the children, then fleeing the country to the U.K., where a legal battle over her extradition occurred. She came back to the 4th Judicial District in December 2025, with her most recent hearing occurring on Christmas Eve.

Her hearing Wednesday is set for a “first appearance,” which means Singler will be read her official list of charges in district court, but her defense could waive the reading.

Thursday

Dustin Boston, 35, is back in court for another preliminary hearing in his murder case. Boston was arrested Feb. 13, 2025, for his alleged role in a Jan. 20, 2025, shooting that left Tyray Ikener, 32, dead near the gas pumps at the King Soopers near the corner of Stetson Hills and North Powers boulevard.

Police say they believe car theft was the motive behind the murder.

Boston has already had a preliminary hearing, so Thursday’s hearing marks the second one in his legal proceedings so far.

Colorado State Patrol trooper, Luke Zellman, 42, is set to enter a plea during his arraignment, also scheduled for Thursday.

The story started in February, when the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children unit received information from the National Center for Missing and Endangered Children about someone downloading child sexual abuse material, according to past Gazette coverage.

Police discovered through the investigation that the individual was a Colorado Springs resident and a Colorado State Patrol trooper, identified as Zellman. He faces 13 charges related to the sexual exploitation of a child.
