If you’ve gone driving along Interstate 25 lately and saw an unusual sight near Monument — something from another time and place — you weren’t hallucinating.

Yep. Those are dinosaurs.

Surrounded by shipping containers, several prehistoric beasts appear to roam the countryside between I-25 and Old Denver Road, north of the Baptist Road exit. But it’s not a scene from a “Jurassic Park” movie. The dinos are staking their claim to the future site of a second Lost Island Adventure Park.

The new attraction, set to open in spring 2027, will be roughly twice the size of the Colorado Springs park, which is located at 1825 Dominion Way, near North Academy and Dublin boulevards.

“We’ve had the (Monument) property for about two years, and we were finally able to close the deal on the land about a month ago,” said Kyle Martin, Lost Island’s general manager.

“The dinosaurs were in hiding, behind the barrier of the shipping containers. Once we got the go-ahead on the land, we were able to start production.”

Owner Keith Hittle and members of the Lost Island maintenance team assembled the dinosaurs, sewing the pieces together at the seams, according to Manager Leah O’Shea.

“The new location has a lot of new things coming,” O’Shea said.

Among the “dino-mite” attractions will be four separate 18-hole mini golf courses (compared to two at the Colorado Springs park), an indoor restaurant with full kitchen, an outdoor tiki bar and an expanded lounge area, officials said.

In addition to mini golf, kids will be able to enjoy inflatable bounce houses, obstacles and a “ninja” course. For families or businesses looking to throw a catered party, the new location will have eight party rooms.

The dinosaurs can expect plenty of company in the coming months, according to Martin.

“They are just the beginning,” he said. “We’re going to have about 300 figurines of all different types and sizes.”

The Lost Island team will begin building structures during the winter months, Martin said. Until then, the dinosaurs will continue to dominate the landscape.

“It’s going to be a great attraction for families and kids,” Martin said. “We’re excited about it.”
