A man was arrested early on New Year’s Day after an altercation involving a handgun at a residence near the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, according to an online police blotter entry.

Just before 2 a.m. Thursday, officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department were called out to the area of Mount View Lane and Stanton Street, southwest of the UCCS campus, after a report of shots being fired.

After locating the victim, a family member of suspect Aaron Wilson-Armstrong, 42, they learned the shooting had occurred around 1000 Magnolia St., where Wilson-Armstrong allegedly pointed a handgun at her and then fired at least one shot in the air from inside the residence.

Police said Wilson-Armstrong’s girlfriend was also present and tried to take the gun away, when he allegedly pointed the gun at her and “possibly” fired shots in the air.

Officers set up a crisis entry team and made contact with the suspect’s girlfriend, who eventually left the residence, leaving Wilson-Armstrong possibly asleep on top of the gun.

A drone was used to confirm the suspect’s location and officers entered the residence to arrest Wilson-Armstrong.
