Woman convicted of murdering husband in Pueblo assisted living facility

Kathy Lawton, 73, was found guilty of second-degree murder for the stabbing death of her husband at a Pueblo assisted living facility on Nov. 24, 2024, according to a news release by the 10th Judicial District.

A Pueblo County judge delivered the guilty verdict for Kathy Lawton on Monday following a two-day trial. The verdict came more than a year after she reported to facility staff that 85-year-old Larry Lawton was deceased while intoxicated.

Staff at the Bonaventure of Pueblo assisting living center found Larry Lawton cold and bloodied by multiple stab wounds, according to the release. Kathy Lawton was later taken into custody at her residence.

She will be sentenced on Jan. 30 in Pueblo County.
