Pikes Peak weather recap: Colorado Springs breaks 23 records, 10th warmest year recorded

After a record 71-degree Christmas and a snow-free New Year’s forecast, Coloradans around the Pikes Peak region are left questioning their sanity.

December 2025 has broken records as the warmest since at least 1983, but yearly totals are on par with historic averages in Colorado Springs, despite making the “top 10 warmest years” list.

Looking back on the year, Colorado Springs had an average temperature of 51.6 degrees and received 16.28 inches of precipitation, lining up closely with historic averages, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.

The Springs’ average annual temperature ranges from the high 40s to the 50s, said meteorologist Mike Garberoglio with the Weather Service. On average, the city receives 15.89 inches of precipitation.

Though 2025’s average of 51 degrees falls within Garberoglio’s estimated average temperature, this year ranked the 10th-warmest year Colorado Springs has recorded.

“This year was ranked No. 10 for the warmest (in National Weather Service records),” Garberoglio said. “And it looks like Colorado Springs broke 23 separate records this year … 18 were record highs.”

The higher yearly average, no doubt, has been influenced by the warmest December in Weather Service records, with an average high of around 41 degrees, according to Garberoglio. He says the coldest December on record was in 1983, with an average of approximately 18 degrees.

Garberoglio says these warm December temperatures are nothing to fret about, and drastically changing weather is never out of the question in Colorado Springs, especially so close to Pikes Peak.

“December is always kind of hard. It’s one of our more dynamic seasons,” he said. “Especially situated so close to the mountains.”

The New Year’s forecast

Temperatures will rise into the 60s by the time 2026 starts.

Thursday, New Year’s Day: The high is projected to be around 61 degrees, with cloudy skies. The nighttime low will be approximately 35.

Friday: Expect sunny skies to return, with a high around 59 degrees and a nighttime low of around 32.
