BOULDER COUNTY — Evacuations were ordered due to a wildfire in the Fourmile Canyon area of Boulder County, according to an emergency alert.

The evacuation order was issued at approximately 5:51 p.m. for an area surrounding Wild Turkey Trail, north of Highway 119 and west of Boulder. Residents should use Evening Star Road for evacuations.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said 662 people in the fire area received a warning or an evacuation order and 499 structures are located in the fire area.

Fire crews have established a fire line around the fire and BCSO said they will wait until midnight to evaluate if residents can return home or if a shelter needs to be set up.

“The winds are still 40-50 mph in the canyon,” said Vinnie Montez with BCSO.

Firefighters are still on scene and continue to strengthen containment lines.

The Sugar Loaf Fire Protection District said the fire has burned about an acre.

Just after 6 p.m., the sheriff’s office issued an evacuation warning for a larger area of Fourmile Canyon. The sheriff’s office said residents in that area should prepare to evacuate, or evacuate immediately if they needed extra time.

Relative humidity is low, at 15-20%. Humidity is forecasted to increase and wind speeds are forecasted to decrease throughout the evening.

A Fire Weather Warning issued for the area earlier Monday expired at 5 p.m.
