Part of Garden of the Gods Road to close overnight; Union Boulevard partially reopens
The center lanes of Garden of the Gods Road, close to Interstate 25, will be closed for the installation of new traffic lights starting Wednesday night.
According to the City of Colorado Springs, the closure starts at 8 p.m. and will remain in place until 5 a.m. Thursday. At least one lane will stay open in each direction for the busy road.
“Motorists are asked to use extra caution on Garden of the Gods Road near Northpark Drive and Mark Dabling Boulevard,” the city said in a Tuesday news release.
Safety barriers will be in place, along with safety signage. Heavy equipment, artificial lighting and construction workers will also be visible.
The construction work is part of a project that aims to improve Garden of the Gods Road, according to the city’s website.
Union Boulevard lane closures
Also being worked on the city’s north side is part of North Union Boulevard between Montebello Drive and Academy Boulevard.
According to Colorado Springs Utilities, the closure is for a “large” water main repair project that was started Tuesday. All three southbound lanes of Union were closed, but the road partially reopened Wednesday.

The organization did not provide a timeline for full-road reopening but said it is dependent on weather conditions because crews can’t repave the road in temperatures below 40 degrees.
