Fatal overnight auto-pedestrian crash in Pueblo shuts down portion of I-25 for hours

One person died in an overnight crash in central Pueblo that shut down a portion of Interstate 25 that runs through the city, police reported.

The wreck was initially reported by the Colorado Department of Transportation right after midnight Wednesday and later confirmed as fatal by the Pueblo Police Department.

Southbound Interstate 25 remained closed Wednesday morning from 29th Street to 13th Street, which is between exit 102 (Eagleridge Boulevard) and exit 99A (Colorado 96). The Police Department said it will remain closed “until further notice.”

Traffic cameras showed southbound traffic being diverted from the interstate onto South Elizabeth Street and rerouted around the closure.

It was unclear as of 9 a.m. Wednesday whether the person killed was the pedestrian. No arrests have been announced.

Authorities asked the public to avoid the area. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, commuters were experiencing a 10-minute traffic delay in the area.
