The Colorado Springs man facing eight counts of first-degree attempted murder set had his case set for a 2026 trial Wednesday, noting that plea agreement negotiations are still ongoing.

Ruben Sandoval, 20, was arrested April 8 after allegedly shooting at a home in the 2100 block of East Willamette Avenue, according to Colorado Springs police. There were eight people in the house at the time, including a baby.

Police said they connected Sandoval and another teenager to the shooting through Instagram chat logs, where the two bragged about being the shooters and talked about a “beef” they had with a man inside the home, according to Sandoval’s arrest affidavit.

Chat logs in the affidavit show Sandoval reportedly taking credit for the shooting by sending news articles in a group chat with his friends and saying “uk (u know) we did it.” He also allegedly posted multiple videos of a .22 caliber AR-15-style pistol, adding that he “let off 25” with it.

Sandoval appeared out of custody seated next to his family Wednesday after posting bond several months ago.

Sandoval’s trial is set for April 6, but there remains a chance the case won’t go to a jury. According to the prosecution, there are more than 500 pages of evidence in the case, and the District Attorney’s Office has yet to review all the details of the case.

Prosecutors said they still intend to discuss the possibility of a plea agreement, and hope they can reach a resolution with the defense prior to the trial date.

Sandoval’s next appearance in a 4th Judicial District courtroom is scheduled March 4 to address motions ahead of the potential trial.
