As part of Giving Tuesday, a giant global promotion to encourage charitable donations to a variety of organizations and causes, and its cousin, Colorado Gives Day, another push for contributions on Dec. 9, free laser shows will be presented Tuesday, Dec. 2, across Colorado, including in Colorado Springs.

Gates will open at 5 p.m. at the Norris Penrose Event Center parking lot, 1045 Lower Gold Camp Road, in Colorado Springs.

After dark, around 6:20 p.m., a 20-minute display of light and sound on a 30-foot screen with in-motion images and lasers will be synchronized to music that can be accessed in vehicles.

The Colorado Gives Foundation is sponsoring the shows.

Tickets are free but required for entry. Free popcorn also will be available.

Simultaneous shows will be held in Lakewood and Fort Collins.

Giving Tuesday, givingtuesday.org, started in 2012 as a day to do good and now is held in 110 countries. Last year’s event raised a record $3.6 billion donated by 36.1 million people.

Next Tuesday’s Colorado Gives Day, coloradogives.org, was founded in 2010 and last year raised $77 million from 134,000 donors for 4,500 nonprofits statewide. Many donations are tax deductible.
