A man is in custody after police say he robbed a downtown Colorado Springs business and assaulted an employee overnight.

The employee told police the suspect walked into the location at the 500 block of South Nevada Avenue just after 1 a.m. Tuesday, took some items and then assaulted them after being confronted, according to an online police blotter entry.

After the assault, police say the suspect took off with the items on foot.

Officers found the suspect, identified as Rodney Harris, when they arrived and made an arrest.

Information on extent of injuries to the employee was not released.

Harris was arrested on suspicion of robbery and third-degree assault. El Paso county jail records show he is being held on a $10,000 bond.
