Convicted Colorado killer gets more prison time after death of Limon inmate

A man who was previously convicted of murder in Arapahoe County was sentenced to additional four-plus more decades behind bars for the bludgeoning and strangulation death of a fellow inmate at the Limon Correctional Facility, according to a news release by the 23rd Judicial District.

Arthur Price, 40, killed 65-year-old inmate Paul Hack in a cell, then dragged his body down several flights of stairs in August 2023. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, first-degree assault and abuse of a corpse and was sentenced to an additional 41 and a half years behind bars, the Friday release stated.

At the time of Hack’s death, Price had served 12 years of a 36-year sentence for killing a woman in Arapahoe County in 2013, court records show.

The incident was captured through surveillance cameras and showed Price sitting beside Hack’s body and waiting for correctional officers to arrive after dragging the body down several flights of stairs.

“That’s what child molesters get. Hope you rot in hell,” Price said to officers as he was escorted away, the release stated.

Hack was confirmed to be a convicted child molester, according to the 23rd Judicial District. Still, prosecutors argued Price’s motive “was not vigilante justice but an attempt to secure a transfer to another facility and avoid repaying significant debts he had accumulated at Limon.”

The 23rd Judicial District Attorney George Brauchler stated that the sentence “should send a clear message to inmates throughout Lincoln, Douglas and Elbert Counties.”

“It is rarified air to be responsible for the unlawful killing of two human beings,” Brauchler stated in the Friday release. “There is no room in society- or even general population in prison — for someone who so wantonly kills.”
