A drunken driver allegedly engaged in a police pursuit in Colorado Springs Saturday night, ending with Colorado State Patrol performing a tactical vehicle intervention to stop the suspect on Interstate 25.

Just after 7:30 p.m., troopers responded to a Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately (R.E.D.D.I.) call involving a Dodge Ram pickup truck on I-25, just north of Second Street. When troopers attempted to stop the suspect, he engaged in a pursuit, “ramming” two patrol vehicles, causing damage, according to a news release from the state agency.

Troopers performed a tactical vehicle intervention (TVI), a method used to “end pursuits as quickly and safely as possible,” according to State Patrol’s website, in which patrol cars strike a vehicle to turn it around and bring it to a stop.

After “a short standoff,” troopers took Dean Moore, 60, into custody and transported him to a hospital to treat injuries from the TVI. State Patrol says no troopers were injured in the incident.
