OPTIONAL SUBHEAD: Irving Berlin classic opens Nov. 28

Cripple Creek’s Butte Theater presents Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas,” an uplifting and inspiring musical for all ages. Based on the beloved 1954 movie of the same name, “White Christmas” features a dazzling score along with the perennial title song.

“I am so excited to bring the magic of the beloved Christmas classic “White Christmas” to our patrons at The Butte. It is one of my favorite Christmas movies, so to bring the musical version of the show to The Butte stage is a dream come true,” Theater Manager Lauren Smith said.

Under the direction of Michael Lasris of Green Glass Productions, this holiday presentation features both professional cast members and local actors and crew.

“If there’s one thing that the holiday season and musical theatre share, it’s that people turn to them to escape the monotony of real life. White Christmas allows audiences to set aside their day-to-day concerns for a few hours and travel to a simpler and happier time. And that’s something we could all use around this time of year,” Lasris, said.

PLOT

Following World War II, 151st Army Regiment veterans and successful song-and-dance partners Bob Wallace and Phil Davis follow the beautiful singing Haynes Sisters to their Christmas show at a Vermont ski lodge, coincidentally owned by Bob and Phil’s former army commander, General Waverly. Upon arrival, they discover that the lack of snow is keeping tourists away.

Hoping to attract guests, Phil and Bob devise a secret plan to stage a musical, plus reunite their old army regiment at the inn. In the meantime, love sparks between the two respective couples.

On Christmas Eve, the inn is filled and the soldiers surprise the general. As everyone sings “White Christmas”, a thick snowfall at last blankets the resort.

The show features favorite songs from the movie such as “Love You Didn’t Do Right By Me,” “Sisters” “The Best Things Happen While You’re Dancing,” and of course, the title song “White Christmas.”

To fill out the musical score, there are additional Irving Berlin classics including “I Love a Piano” and “How Deep is the Ocean.”

“Pair that with stunning dance numbers and a story everyone knows and loves, it’ll be a guaranteed good time for audiences of all ages,” Smith sid. “We hope that this production brings the cozy feeling of nostalgia and holiday cheer to our patrons and their loved ones.”
