Colorado Springs may see first snow of season by end of the week
Warm temperatures will dip enough that the Colorado Springs area could see snow by Friday, leaving behind an “unseasonably warm” November, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.
Last November, Colorado Springs saw blizzards by Election Day. This year, as we near December, we’ve seen temperatures into the high 70s. Finally, this pattern of hot and dry weather is passing, welcoming winter.
On Sunday night, Colorado Springs saw warnings from the Weather Service about wind speeds exceeding 55 mph, indicating the weather system that brought warm temperatures is passing, said Makoto Moore, a lead meteorologist at the Weather Service.
A low-pressure pattern will come in from the southwest this week, according to Moore, bringing temperatures in the 40s and precipitation to the area by Thursday night.
“The pattern (Colorado Springs has been in) brought high temperatures and low moisture, causing some unseasonable temperatures, but this pattern from the Four Corners will bring low temperatures and high moisture,” Moore said.
The average first snowfall in Colorado Springs is Oct. 24, according to the weather service, meaning Thursday night’s predicted snow is 27 days later than average.
