Pikes Peak region football teams start, continue playoff battles this weekend
Postseason football continues Friday night with several area high school football teams in action.
Class 3A will begin playoffs this weekend with two Pikes Peak region teams fighting to advance to next week’s quarterfinals.
Here are a few notes on the remaining area teams.
5A
No. 7 Pine Creek, 7-3, vs. No. 10 Mullen (at District 20 Stadium), 7 p.m. Friday
The Eagles return to the gridiron after a first-round bye and face No. 10 Mullen at home. Pine Creek closed the regular season with four consecutive wins.
Pine Creek owns a 29-5 record at home since 2021 and hopes that helps the Eagles upend the Mustangs, who are 4-2 on the road.

Passing: Brady Walden, 61-108, 673 yards, 4 touchdowns, 5 interceptions.
Rushing: Xavier Lukes, 231 carries, 1,429 yards, 17 touchdowns.

No. 17 Fountain-Fort Carson, 8-3, at No. 1 Cherry Creek, 7 p.m. Friday
The Trojans snapped a 7-7 tie against No. 16 Cherokee Trail with a rushing touchdown to win 14-7 and to advance to the second round. Trojans bulldozer DaKari Releford amassed 188 yards on 17 carries and a score in the playoff opener.
Now, Fountain-Fort Carson faces No. 1 Cherry Creek, which is 49th in the nation and on a 23-game winning streak ahead of the matchup.

4A
No. 3 Palmer Ridge, 10-0, vs. No. 14 Mesa Ridge (at Don Breese Stadium) 7 p.m. Friday
Palmer Ridge has outscored its opponents 448-70 in 10 games. That means the Bears average just under 45 per contest and their opposition sits at 7 points per game. In their final seven games, Palmer Ridge held its opponents to a touchdown or less.
Just two of the Bears’ 10 opponents scored twice in one contest.

No. 14 Mesa Ridge, 6-5, vs. No. 3 Palmer Ridge (at Don Breese), 7 p.m. Friday
Mesa Ridge scored a season-high 54 points in their victory against Loveland last week and have a three-game winning streak ahead of their second round contest.
That matchup is against Palmer Ridge, 4A’s No. 3 seed and the team that handed the Grizzlies a 35-7 loss Sept. 26. The Grizzlies have won five of six since their showdown with the Bears.

Rushing: Cameron Tertulien, 64 carries, 514 yards, 5 touchdowns.

No. 11 Vista Ridge, 8-3, at No. 6 Broomfield, 7 p.m. Friday
The Wolves crushed Montbello 38-13 in the first round and have a date with the defending state champion.
Vista Ridge has a 3-1 road record this season and, though the Wolves have one road loss, they’ve outscored their opposition 113-47 in four contests away from home.

Passing: Colton Camba, 117-208, 1,606 yards, 16 touchdowns, 9 interceptions.
Rushing: Malachi Arnds 42 carries, 492 yards, 5 touchdowns.

3A
No. 13 Lewis-Palmer, 6-4, at No. 4 Mead, 1 p.m. Saturday
After a 2-3 start, the Rangers closed the regular season with wins in four of their final five games and scored 60 or more in three of those contests.
As the Rangers head to No. 4 Mead, they own a two-game road winning streak and have outscored their competition 81-33 during that stretch.

Passing: Drew Thompson, 24-66, 261 yards, 4 touchdowns, 4 interceptions.
Rushing: Greg Moore, 154 carries, 1,196 yards, 12 touchdowns.

No. 15 Coronado, 7-3, at No. 2 Pomona, noon Saturday
The Cougars take their high-octane offense and three-game winning streak on the road this weekend.
Coronado has scored 40 or more six times this season and dropped a season-high 70 on Pueblo Central in last week’s finale.

The Classical Academy, 10-0, vs. No. 6 Kent Denver, 1 p.m. Saturday
Through 10 games, the Titans have defeated each opponent by at least 17 points.
Class 2A’s defending champions also own a 23-game winning streak and the Titans have scored at least 41 points in six games.
