El Paso County authorities arrested a man they say tried to hide evidence of a killing in which a 38-year-old woman was shot six times inside her apartment.

Yetzabel Quinones was found inside her home in the Stratmoor Hills area of unincorporated Colorado Springs by her ex-husband and daughter on Halloween day after having not heard from her in a while, according to arrest documents. They found a garbage bag over the doorbell camera and smelled a “strong odor” of cleaning agents inside the residence.

Preliminary findings in the autopsy revealed Quinones had gunshot wounds to her head, face, left shoulder, right leg and a graze wound, the documents say. Her death is believed to have happened the day before Halloween, Oct. 30.

Investigators from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office arrested 32-year-old Cameron Burton in connection with the killing. Burton lives in the apartment complex, located in the 4200 block of Loomis Avenue, in an upstairs unit, housing records show.

According to the arrest documents, investigators tied Burton to the crime through camera footage and associates of Quinones, who told detectives that she had a suspicious neighbor that she caught messing with her doorbell camera prior to the shooting.

Camera footage shows a man believed by investigators to be Burton walking his dog the night of Oct. 30 after the killing. According to investigators, he walked past several trash cans and dumpsters before throwing a white bag into one and setting it on fire. A search of the dumpster showed burned clothing believed to be used during the crime.

The man is then seen walking back to the apartment complex, located 365 feet away from the dumpster.

Blink camera footage from Quinones’s apartment shows a masked man with a dog, with the man carrying a gun before shooting her. Investigators note that the dog and a backpack seen in the footage match the same seen in the arson video footage. A gun matching the description in the video and blood were also found inside Burton’s apartment.

His bathroom also smelled “heavily” of cleaning chemicals, according to the arrest document.

While a clear motive has not been stated, investigators believe Burton robbed Quinones.

Burton is being held at the El Paso County jail, where records show he was booked Tuesday. He is being held on a no-bond hold for first-degree murder, aggravated robbery and first-degree burglary charges.

According to housing records, Burton moved into the apartment back in 2024. Prior to that, he has several registered addresses in Memphis, where records show he’s been arrested several times.

Neighbors told investigators he was “weird” and known to do “a lot of drugs,” with one recalling a time he had asked for marijuana.

Quinones, a single mother, had lived in the apartment complex since 2018, according to housing records. Prior to that, she had lived elsewhere in El Paso County and Colorado.

Online social media says she was originally from Florida, where she graduated from high school. She was studying studio art at Pikes Peak State College, which she started in 2023.

According to her LinkedIn, she was working part-time as a licensed massage therapist since 2017 and at a local YMCA. Before that, she worked as a police officer in the Army.
