UPDATE: Grass fire near Powers Boulevard extinguished; roadway reopened
Part of South Powers Boulevard was closed Tuesday morning from a small grass fire, according to the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

The fire was reported just before 8:30 a.m. in the area of Powers and East Platte Avenue and was under control about 15 minutes later. Two lanes of northbound South Powers at Airport Road were shut down but have since reopened, the Fire Department said in an X post.
The size of the fire was less than half an acre, and fire investigators said its cause will be labeled as undetermined. The fire didn’t spread or threaten any homes or infrastructure, the Fire Department said on X.
“The grasses are drying out, so please use extreme caution outdoors with any source of sparks,” the Fire Department said on X.
