Patrick Gonzales, Fountain-Fort Carson, sr., football – Not only did Gonzales pester Cherokee Trail on defense, he also burned Cherokee Trail on offense.

Gonzales’ lone rush went for 12 yards and gave the Trojans a 14-7 lead against the Cougars, and the eventual victory in Fountain-Fort Carson’s 5A playoff road opener. Gonzales’ score was his first rushing touchdown of the year and was the senior’s longest run of the season.

Gonzales earned a season-best 11 tackles, two for loss, and one sack against the Cougars.

Leland Frescaz, Mesa Ridge, sr., football – Frescaz had his second-highest throwing percentage of the season at .706 and threaded the needle several times in the Grizzlies’ blowout victory.

In a 54-22 win Friday in 4A’s first round against Loveland, Frescaz finished 12-of-17 passing for 234 yards and two touchdowns. Frescaz’s yardage and scores were his best marks in his first and only season with the Grizzlies and his second time over 200 yards passing this season.  

Devin Dettman, Vista Ridge, sr., football – Montbello surely hated to see Dettman line up opposite its offense last week.

The Wolves beat the Warriors 38-13 in 4A’s first-round playoff matchup and the senior finished with two sacks. Dettman also had three solo tackles with two being for losses.

Jacob Bourland, Vista Ridge, sr., football – Bourland was another bright spot on the Wolves’ defense and a thorn in Montbello’s offensive side in Vista Ridge’s victory Friday night.

Bourland finished with 14 total tackles and 11 solo, both team highs, in the Wolves’ 38-13 win against Montbello. The senior safety also caused a fumble and had an interception, his first since Sept. 5.

Zach Mediavilla, The Classical Academy, sr., football – Mediavilla’s best performance of the season punctuated a strong 2A first round for the Titans.

The senior wideout had a season high in receptions and yardage as Mediavilla finished with six catches for 154 yards in the Titans’ 56-14 win against Florence.

Mediavilla’s 100-plus-yard receiving game is his first of the season and his TDs marked his first since Sept. 5 with a touchdown reception.   

Calvin Stewart, Pine Creek, sr., boys soccer – Cherry Creek hadn’t lost via shutout in more than a year and last dropped an overtime match in November 2023.

Stewart gave the Bruins a two for one as the Eagles senior’s third goal of the season put Pine Creek in the 5A semifinals and helped his team win 1-0 against the reigning and undefeated state champions.

The Eagles midfielder had not scored since his strike against Battle Mountain on Oct. 17.

Saydie Rexroth, Pine Creek, jr., girls volleyball – Rexroth’s perfect passing helped lead Pine Creek to another state playoff berth.

The Eagles setter totaled 40 assists in two matches during 5A’s regional tournament last weekend and notched 23 in the Eagles’ sweep (25-11, 25-15, 25-15) against Monarch to take the regional crown.

In eight of Pine Creek’s 25 matches, Rexroth has 20 or more assists.

Kasia Dowd, Cheyenne Mountain, sr., girls volleyball – Dowd paired a strong day of passing with a solid effort attacking at regionals for the Red-Tailed Hawks.

In the regional-clinching victory against Glenwood Springs, Dowd reached double-digit kills for the first time in five matches and finished with 10 and an ace.

Dowd ended the regional tournament with 41 total assists including 21 in the win against the Demons to bring her to 336 in 91 sets played.

Addison Miller, Village, sr., girls volleyball – One of the state’s top setters continued to flourish as the Mountaineers collected another regional crown.

Miller notched a career-high 52 assists in Village’s 3-1 win (25-17, 24-26, 25-16, 25-21) against Prospect Ridge Academy on Saturday and finished with 90 in seven sets played at the regional tournament.

The senior setter has more than tripled her assist total from 2024 when she finished with 223 in 59 sets and has 736 in 72 sets played this year.

Ellie Wagner, Evangel Christian Academy, jr., girls volleyball – Colorado’s fourth-ranked hitter demonstrated why she’s a dominant force in the Eagles’ regional contest.

Wagner finished two matches with 32 total kills to bring her to 409 in 78 sets this season. In 22 of the Eagles’ 24 matches, Wagner has reached double-figure kills and her .325 hitting percentage has the junior 36^th in the state.

AJ Pepper, Lewis-Palmer, sr., football – In a 70-12 blowout victory against Pueblo Centennial in the 3A regular-season finale, Pepper scored a touchdown without a single offensive touch.

Pepper recovered a fumble and carried it 75 yards for the score to help the Rangers close the regular season with a win. Pepper also finished with a deflected pass and three tackles.

Collin Wolf, Coronado, sr., football – Wolf helped lead the Cougars to a season high on the scoreboard and dominated all three phases.

The Coronado wideout finished with six receptions for 131 yards and three touchdowns in the 70-34 win against Pueblo Central last week.

Wolf also returned a kickoff 97 yards to the end zone for his first special teams score of the year. On defense, Wolf matched a season high with 11 tackles, one for loss, and had one pass defended.

Marcella Chiriboga, Rampart, sr., girls volleyball – One of 5A’s most proficient passers continued a year of excellence during the Rams’ dominant regional run.

Chiriboga tallied 34 assists in a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-11, 25-14) of Vista PEAK Prep on Saturday and has 23 or more assists in 10 consecutive matches. Chiriboga also has just five ball-handling errors in 85 sets played and last committed an error Sept. 9.

Jayson Beaudin, Coronado, sr., football – One week after setting a season-high in carries and rushing yards, Beaudin added a few more yards to reach a new best.

Beaudin carried the ball nine times for a season-high 86 yards and a season-best two touchdowns in the Cougars’ 70-34 win against Pueblo Central.

The senior logged his first rushing score since the Cougars’ opener against Palmer where he reached the end zone once for a score.

Mesa Ridge, Palmer Ridge football prep for rematch

After Mesa Ridge’s 54-22 win against Loveland last week, the No. 14-seeded Grizzlies set up a rematch with the No. 3 Bears.

Palmer Ridge, which had a first-round bye in the 4A playoffs, earned a 35-7 victory against Mesa Ridge on Sept. 26. Since that loss, the Grizzlies (6-5) have won five of six contests and have not scored fewer than 22 points.

The Bears (10-0) have won each game by at least 14 and have scored 35 or more in all but one contest, a 21-7 victory against Durango on Oct. 10.
