Colorado Springs weather: Possible record-breaking temps forecast amid elevated fire risk

Veterans Day will be “much warmer” than normal across the Pikes Peak region, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.

The possible record-breaking temperatures are contributing to dry conditions that will bring brief elevated fire-weather conditions during the afternoon, according to the NOAA. Temperatures are expected to be 10-15 degrees above average.

In Colorado Springs, Meteorologist Casey Dorn of Gazette news partner KOAA is expecting a high near 72. That is one degree shy of the record high for Nov. 11 of 73 degrees, set in 1989 and 1999.

“It will be a close call,” Dorn said.

Dorn said the warm and dry conditions will continue into Friday, keeping Colorado Springs into the 70s to upper 60s. The normal high temperature for the city at this time of year is 55 degrees.

Friday could be windy, and Dorn said there could be elevated fire danger.

But weather patterns are changing come the weekend, with Dorn saying it’s “very likely” that there will be accumulating snowfall in the mountains. At least some showers are “likely” in parts of southern Colorado.

The Weather Service is forecasting a 20% chance of showers before 11 p.m. Saturday around Colorado Springs.

Dorn noted that the timing of impacts could shift from Saturday-Sunday to Sunday-Monday.
