Golf and beer go hand-in-hand at Bogeys and Brews

Golfers of all skill levels will soon have a new place in Falcon to grab a beer and hit the links.

The words "Bogeys & Brews," with a golf ball substituted for the "o" in "bogeys," is laid over a green and gold shield with two golf clubs crossed behind it.

Bogeys and Brews, an indoor golf simulator facility and bar, officially opens its doors Saturday at 11694 Bent Grass Market View, Suite 140. A grand opening celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. will feature drink specials and prizes.

It is an independent business, owner Johnny Alaniz said; it is not affiliated with the similarly named Bogeys & Brews Golf Club.

Opening the business is a dream come true for owner Alaniz, a retired Army veteran and Falcon resident. He combined his longtime desire to open his own bar with his love for sports, particularly golf, a pastime he took up about five years ago after he retired.

The facility gives golfers a place they can play for fun or to improve their game, somewhere free from the elements.

“Golf is one of those games that you play, and you want to keep playing and getting better. … It’s a good way to kill a morning, four or five hours, and I know out here in Colorado, you can’t really golf but five or six months out of the year,” Alaniz said.

He signed the lease on his business suite in May and in August began customizing the interior, which features four golf bays along the western wall and a bar and food ordering counter on the eastern wall.

“These simulators are made for recreational players who just want to come in, hit some balls and have a good time, and they’re made for the more serious golfer who wants to work on their game,” Alaniz said.

At the bays, golfers can play at more than 3,200 simulated golf courses. Built-in technology tracks a golfer’s swing and ball flight data, so players can also keep note of their statistics.

Alaniz is considering offering league play and hosting smaller tournaments throughout the year.

At the bar, Alaniz plans to have offerings from local breweries on tap. A 12-tap beer dispenser on site has plenty of room for them, he said.

For food, pizza and other treats from Fox’s Pizza Den next door are on the menu.

Alaniz and the pizzeria’s owner Josh Hicks built a custom order counter between their suites. Alaniz’s customers can order and receive Fox’s Pizza directly, without having to leave Bogeys and Brews.

Fox’s Pizza Den will also have its grand opening on Saturday.

Other details throughout the bar add to a relaxed yet upscale atmosphere. Dark wood tables and benches complement soft, camel-colored leather couches and chairs arranged in lounge areas throughout the space. The bar features dark green tile backsplash.

“We’re really excited,” Alaniz said of opening the business. “We’re looking forward to it.”

Unincorporated Falcon, northeast of Colorado Springs, was once a rural area of large lots and multiacre ranches, but as thousands of homes have been built in the area over the last 30 years, retailers have followed, from Walmart and Walgreens to restaurant chains and mom-and-pop eateries.
