Pikes Peak region residents have several opportunities to mark Veterans Day this year, including the annual parade and smaller ceremonies around town.

This is the first year Colorado Springs will host a full week of official events in addition to gatherings hosted by individual schools, nonprofits and other groups.

The In Their Honor Veterans Day Parade was held at 11 a.m. Saturday along Tejon Street.

The ANA Money Museum will host a Purple Heart Exhibit from 10 a.m. to 5 on Tuesday.  Adult admission to the Money Museum costs $8. Kids 12 and under may enter for free. All veterans, military ID holders and their families are also eligible for free admission during the exhibit’s duration.

The parade’s organizers will host a wreath-laying ceremony at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park.

Pikes Peak State College will host a wreath-laying ceremony at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Veterans Memorial Courtyard in the Centennial Campus at 5675 South Academy Boulevard. The Native American Student Alliance is partnering with the Military and Veterans Programs to host the event.

Teller County is hosting a free dinner for veterans and their families from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Ute Pass Cultural Center at 210 East Midland Avenue in Woodland Park. A ceremony will start at 5 p.m.

The Classical Academy is hosting a Veterans Day Assembly that is open to the public from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday in the North Campus gym.
This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Chris Benjamin, an Air Force veteran and Bronze Star recipient, who commanded hospitals in Iraq and Afghanistan, among other accomplishments.

Pikes Peak State College will also host a Veterans Day speaker series from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Rampart Campus at 2070 Interquest Parkway.

The Colorado Springs Hispanic Chamber will host the Latino Veterans Valor Awards at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Pinery on the Hill. Tickets are available at cshispanicchamber.com.

Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center will host its annual gala, Hoedown for Heroes, from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14. More info about tickets is available at veteranscenter.org.
