Major facility upgrades are coming to two El Paso County School districts, early election results indicate.

As of 7:30 Tuesday, Manitou Springs voters approved a district-wide bond proposal in D-14, and Widefield voters said yes to their own bond measure, but rejected a mill levy override.

In Manitou Springs, 52.6% of voters were in favor D-14’s $37.6 million bond that would focus on upgrades to safety and security, ADA accessibility and existing infrastructure.

ADA-compliant restrooms, plumbing and HVAC updates, and roof replacements at three schools were among the areas of need the bond would address. It would also invest more than $6.6 million into resurfacing the high school’s track and updating the district’s stadium and baseball field.

The most recent bonds passed in the district were in 2000 and 1987.

In Widefield, Ballot Measure 4B for an $88 million bond was gaining approval by 52.2% of voters; however, a $5 million MLO for salaries, student programs and equipment was failing by the narrowest of margins — 50% against and 49.9% for it.

The bond would invest specifically in capital projects such as school buildings and facilities. It would include a complete renovation of its North Preschool, the installation of air conditioning in seven schools and the addition of a new space to accommodate projected neighborhood growth.

In other school districts:

In Teller County, 61.5% of voters approved Cripple Creek-Victor RE-1’s Ballot measure 4A to extend an expiring tax, without increasing it, and to increase the school district’s general fund by about $500,000 annually.

Out east, Peyton 23-JT’s Ballot Issue 5C to generate $670,000 annually to construct a new facility and upgrade existing schools was rejected by 68.8% of voters.

Early results saw Miami-Yoder 60-JT’s Ballot Issue 5B getting 50.78% approval. The measure would increase the district’s debt by $1.8 million, without imposing new taxes, to invest in an emergency generator and update its cafeteria and storage facilities.
