Colorado Springs police arrested a domestic violence suspect after a brief standoff early Monday, according to an online blotter entry.

Donte Mayo, 32, faces several charges, including assault and illegal discharge of a firearm, officials said.

Officers responded to a 3:20 a.m. domestic disturbance call at a home in the 1100 block of Quivira Drive, near Fountain Boulevard. When they arrived, they could hear sounds consistent with a struggle in the basement of the home, police said.

The officers forcibly entered the home and went to the basement, where they found the suspect sitting behind a naked woman. The suspect, later identified as Mayo, initially refused commands to surrender before being taken into custody.

After noticing a “strong odor” of gunpowder on Mayo, police returned to the residence, where they found a stolen 10mm Glock pistol and a live round. Officers could not determine where the gun had been fired.

The identity and condition of the female victim were not released.
